I got this as a gift a year or so back, as I wanted a DAB radio to walk me up in the morning (to Planet Rock).
This arrived in my stocking, and was exactly what I was looking for. It is a triangle shape, so it looks cool and sits on your bedside table nicely. It is handy here as the screen is constantly lit up even when off so you cans see the time, it has two brightness settings as well so you can have it to your taste but in all honesty the brighter setting is far to bright at night.
It has a number of settings, primarily alarm settings as that is what it is designed for, so you can set a daily alarm, weekday alarm and weekend alarm which is very handy. It has all of the usual stuff like snooze buttons as well, so you can lay in bed for as long as possible before getting to to rush to get to where you need to be.
As for sound quality, it is good enough for it's job, which is waking you up or just listening to the football or some casual radio etc. It doesn't go especially loud and starts to distort at loud volumes so no good for cranking out Slipknot, but that's really not what I bought it for, I use my PC speakers for that :D.
Very good at what it does.
I have had this since it first came out, must have had it for at least 3 years now! I also have another PURE radio in my kitchen which I also love. This alarm looked different at the time and I still love the design. You can preset different alarms, I think 5 different ones can be set and you have the option to set different times for weekday, weekends, daily or one offs! Have made the odd mistake of thinking the weekend one is on when it was the weekday but easy to switch on and off and easy to check which one is set! The neon blue display looks good in the dark and good with the silver casing!
I don't like waking up to a buzzer, although its a good one! And opt instead to wake up to the radio, again very easy to select or change what you want the alarm to be set to. Not a bad sound either for the volume you have it at.
There is a switch on the back angle which makes the display dimmer or brighter. I was not aware of this when first using and it was set on bright! That first night I didn't think I would get used to sleeping next to such a bright display and it hurt my eyes when opening towards the clock. Finally sussed the dimmer switch and it is constantly on that setting now! Much kinder on the old eyes and more than readable. Still laugh at how stupid I was to think that was how bright it was on the first night!
Lovely little alarm and very easy to set, use and wake up to! Will be gutted when it packs up on me but no problems yet so keeping my fingers crossed it lasts a lot longer!
I was given this for my nrithday after some very true yet humourous comments about my inability to wake up on time for anything. And let me tell you, the alarm on this will definetly wake you up, because if it can wake me up then it would wake up a hippopottamus that has been sleep deprived for a month whilst they are sleeping underwater. But then, this is not just an alarm clock, it is also a fully functioning, and rather good DAB digital radio, which provides great reception and can pick up a large number of statiosn for all your listening plaeasure.
At the moment, we have two digital radios, one being in the kitchen and the other in my room, the former of the two can't pick up any of the BBC stations, whereas mine does, and i think that perhaps this shows its superiority and why this is my DAB radio of choice, as i have seen and tried others for myself to check the differences.
This comes at an affordable price in comparion to some of the other options on the market and as such will save you those precious pennies in this time of economic crisis (at the time of writing). And then the controls are easy to use and understand, allowing anyone to set the alarm or change the presets of the stations, which i managed without ever resorting to reading the instructions. Thus far also, i have had no problems with any of the features and it is working perfectly well. Another feature that i also like, is the ability to input headphones into it, although this won't be the most highly used feature, it is a nice addition nonetheless. The display is easy to read and the strength of the backlight is dependant on the strength of the light around it, so if you are afraid that the backlight will annoy you as you try to get to sleep, then fear no further as this is sorted for you.
Overall, i love thsi radio and use it whenever i want to listen to the radio or for whe i need to get up early for work etc. The only problem is that sometimes the sound quality can dip if the cable that acts as the aerial is not correctly positioned. But, the aesthetics are good and the chrome is very nice sitting on my bedside cabinet, and reflects the quality of the technolgy within it.
