I've owned several of these radios over the years (close on 20, I reckon) and am still amazed at how advanced they are. Sony tried to "improve" on the design with the SW07 and the ridiculously large sw7600GR, but never really succeeded. For anyone wanting a wide-range, multi-mode, pocket-sized, receiver with pretty good sensitivity and excellent selectivity, the SW100 is very hard to beat. Sony should never have stopped manufacturing them - even if (according to the rumours) they made a loss on every single one they sold.............Perhaps that's why they command such high prices now!
I've owned one of these for over 7 years. It has travelled the world with me around all sorts of hostile environments, been bashed about, generally abused and never missed a beat. It still looks clean and tidy too.
The sound is a little thin in some cases and it certainly can''t fil a big room but as a personal radio it's very difficult to fault. The selectable FM sensitivity is very useful in places where there is interference.
Battery life is excellent too.
