Tesco Value CR-106 Clock Radio
Advantages: Good display, low price.
Disadvantages: Radio's rubbish, annoying buzzer, not very good quality.
==Price and Availability==
After my old clock radio broke I needed a replacement quickly as I often have to get up early and the alarm on my phone is a little temperamental to say the least. I was doing the shopping in Tesco so decided to just have a quick look at what was on offer. We were saving up for a flat at the time so I didn't want to spend much and the Tesco CR-106 looked like it would do the job just fine for the time being. I paid £4 for the clock radio, which I think is really good value and although it wasn't all singing all dancing if it would wake me up then I knew I'd be getting my money's worth, the clock radio can be bought in store or online.
The CR-106 is made of black plastic and is quite compact as well as lightweight, there's a six silver buttons on the top, the biggest being the snooze button. On one side is a switch to operate the alarm, it's not easy to accidently turn this off which is always a good thing, on the other side there's a tuning reel to choose your radio station as well as a volume control. The LCD display displays the time in red, which is easy to see during the night. Overall, the clock radio doesn't look that great but it's functional and for under a fiver I was pretty pleased as it doesn't seem cheap.
==Using the Clock Radio==
I found setting up the radio easy enough, it plugs into the mains but there is an option to use batteries, the time was easy to set and so was the alarm time. When switching the alarm on a small red light indicates on the display that you have done so. I use the clock radio on the radio setting to wake me up, and this is where the price of the product becomes apparent. No matter where in my bedroom I put the clock it can't seem to pick up a good radio reception. Now, when this happened whilst living at my Mum and Dad's I thought it might be because it was a bungalow. I now live in a flat though, on a hill and I still can't pick anything decent up, it is good enough to wake me up but I wouldn't leave the radio on to listen to it as it's very crackly and breaks up a lot. There is also a buzzer function for the alarm, but this is an awful sound and although I did use it for a bit it seemed to put me in a bad mood as soon as I woke up.
Overall, for under a fiver I can't really complain too much as the clock does do the job of waking me up, having said that though I have recently replaced the clock as it was getting on my nerves. The radio function is no good and the buzzer is just irritating, the display is clear and as a clock it does work well but as an alarm it's annoying. A decent alarm is worth paying a bit extra for.
Summary: 3/5 a good clock but not for if you want the radio or will use the alarm regularly.
