I've been looking for an ipod/iphone docking station/speaker system for quite some time but have always found them quite pricey. For £25, this little machine seemed to fit the bill but I was sceptical of it's quality - until it arrived!
The docking station charges my iPod whilst playing music!
IN THE BOX
The Firefly came complete with a remote control which is great for changing the song from a distance and if, like me, you enjoy to listen to music in bed. It also came with a cord to connect it to computers/laptops (I presume), the charger, a variety of adaptors to use abroad and a variety of mini stands (suitable for certain iphones, different generation's of ipod nano's and ipod touches that slot around the ipod connector port) which provide a more stable base for your ipod or iphone. There was a noticeable lack of instructions, but you can quickly work out the basics of the machine.
It's not the loudest and certainly would not fill a house with sound, but I still find the muic quality to be great, especially for such a low price. I can listen to music in my room, in the kitchen, in the dining room, outdoors (when I add AA batteries), on the beach, on holiday etc with ease. The sound is crisp and pleasant, but when turned too loud the sound does become very 'bass-y'. You would definitely expect similar sound quality in a more pricey product.
The Firefly is a very attractive piece of kit and looks impressive in any room. When out of use, it folds up in to a virtually spherical ball (except from the levelled base for it to stand). The two speakers are easily folded out to reveal the space for the iPod/iPhone and triple the length of the machine. The style is very distinctive, and looks great both as a ball and when opened up. The firefly is red with black speakers, and is a fun, bold and bright looking docking station. It is larger than I thought it would be as the photo makes it look tiny! For the best representation of size I would advise looking at a picture with the ipod in the machine to see the scale.
The Firefly is very easy to use, featuring very few buttons. The only buttons you will really use are the on/off button and the volume buttons, all of which are quite large and easy to press. (No fiddly bits!)
I have had no faults with my speaker/docking station, though have read other reviews which suggest the remote control isn't always very responsive.
