In the past I have reviewed the charger and various accessories I use with my mobile phone and ensuring that when I am away from home i can have a battery fully charger just in case. In this instance I am reviewing the Canon CA PS400 battery charger and power adaptor. I have numerous spare batteries for my canon digital camera, and they are an essential thing for when I go on holiday and spend the whole day on the road sightseeing etc. This piece of kit allows you to charge upto two batteries at on the back of the charger and it is very efficient at doing this - a full charge takes around an hour and a half.
Each battery space has its own red LED to indicate the progress of the charge. The LED blinks either once, twice or 3 times in quick succession to show how far through the charge the battery is, the LED stays on red when the battery is fully charged. The power cable is included in the package and this is useful as you can have two batteries charging on the charger whilst you have your digital camera charging a third, all at the same time!
Online I have seen prices ranging from over £100 right down to less than £10 and I would say a tenner is a very fair price for what could prove to be extremely useful whilst away from home. I usually charge evrything up the evening before going away, but I guess you could have one battery charging whilst you use the other one and then swop them over when you run out of power. The charger isn't too bulky at all, especially considering it can power 2 batteries comfortably. One downside I would say is that the charger doesn't actually charge both batteries simultaneously. The two spaces can hold a batty each, but the charger will charge one battery, then when that is fully charged will begin to charge the next battery. This is rather strange at first, but I am happy with this as 3 hours to charge two batteries is fine, and if I only really need one battery at a time I am happy to just wait the 90 minutes for one charge.
Overall, I am very pleased with the cost and function of this charger, I will mark down a single star for the inability to charge two batteries at the same time, but I usually charge overnight so this is no problem to me although I am sure it will inconvenience some people.
