Advantages: Versatile, strong build and good value for money.
Disadvantages: Poor front cover
Okay so from having a hobby of RC cars and a lot of battery consuming gadgets around my house I have made the switch to rechargeable batteries and saved myself a lot of money. Something I would recommend to anyone, but only if you use the batteries and don't leave them lying around for hours. After investing a considerable amount in batteries I originally bought a quick charger for ease of use. This got replaced by this Energizer Universal Charger though about two years ago, for £17, as it would not charge C, D or 9V batteries which I then had need of. Since this purchase I have never looked back and this charger is still going now with no signs of wear.
Being a universal charger this product will charge AA, AAA, C, D and 9V batteries. It does this in pairs of two batteries at a time or one 9V battery at a time. From this method of charging you can charge up to four batteries at once and have different batteries charging on different sides of the charger at the same time also. This has actually proved very useful on many occasions.
Like most battery chargers This product has a spring loaded cover to prevent damage if anything were to go wrong in the charging process and this is operated by a small push button at the right of the cover. My only minor gripe will be that this cover is actually very flimsy and doesn't open sometimes but after a quick tap it will always spring open so has never proved an issue for me.
The status of the product is shown on the LCD display on the top of the charger. This is actually very bright so it can be seen easily and shows the status of the battery whilst charging. If you are charging a 9V battery and it tells you if the batteries are full or faulty. There is also a bleep that indicates when the batteries have finished charging and 'full' is spelt out across the screen.
---EASE OF USE---
This product comes with a great instruction manual that tell you everything you would ever want to know very quickly and effectively. The product comes with a detachable power cord that is great as it can be stored separately and if the cord gets broken from years of use you can buy a replacement instead of buying a whole new product. Really this product is a very simple charger that just lets you plug it in, insert batteries and then wait for it to charge them before taking them out and putting them away. The battery charging times are standard for this price range of chargers so I have no complaints there.
As I have stated this product has served me well and has probably charged hundreds of batteries now and I have never had a problem with it and it shows no signs of tiring. The whole product is quite rounded so it can be dropped without breaking and it all feels quite sturdy and well put together. (Apart from the cover but that is not critical in my opinion).
For the money you are paying this charger is a great buy and perfect for just about all household needs. Being a very versatile charger it is a very handy thing to have around for the whole family and I will continue to use mine for years to come. Personally the best household charger that I have ever used.
