In todays consumer-electronics obsessed society, us Brits go through batteries at a rate of knots, and normally end up spending plenty of money in the process.
In general, batteries are viewed as disposable items - but they shouldn't be, as rechargeables are often more powerful than their disposable counterparts, and nowadays they generally charge quickly too.
Costing £39 from Amazon, the Energizer 'Super Fast 15 Minute Charger' is perfect for emergencies, and comes complete with four AA Ni-MH 2200 mAh batteries which are great for high drain devices such as digital cameras and camcorders.
Made from a durable silver plastic, the charger is small in size and comes packaged with a car adaptor which comes in very handy for those long car journeys where Sony PSP's and Nintendo DS's are used (hopefully not by the driver!).
When it is in use, a red LED illuminates, and a fan kicks into action which controls the temperature of the device. Although certainly not noisy, the fan is audible - that said, it probably will not distract you from whatever you're up to. I would compare the volume to just under that of a PC in operation.
When the charge is complete, a green LED lights up and the batteries can be safely removed. You don't have to worry about overcharging, as there's a safety cut-off device built in to prevent any unexpected fires! However, the batteries do get very hot, probably because of the high current used in order to charge them so quickly.
I do have one reservation with this product however... i'm not sure that it manages to fully charge batteries in the allotted fifteen minutes. Don't get me wrong, the results last a long time - but the batteries in my other charger seem to have a bit more life in them... although perhaps it's just my imagination. All in all though, if you want a super fast battery charger, you can't go too far wrong with this product. As well as being extremely nippy, Energizer's quickest model is efficient and does exactly what it says on the tin - recommended.
