Baby Jogger City Mini Single Raincover
Advantages: Easy to put on well made zip function easy to use and handy
Disadvantages: Doesn't cover a small section at the front of the GT and fiddly to get to break handle on GT
The rain cover we got from Paul Stride in York where we bought the pushchair it cost just over £20. It is also available from other stockist such as Mothercare John Lewis and Online 4 baby from around £18-22.
The cover fits over the pushchair from the rear of the pushchair going over the handle and then it goes over the front of the pushchair and is then fixed in place by two very robust clips that attach to the metal frame at the foot of the pushchair. Putting it on is really quick and easy to do but you do need to make sure you don't put it on inside out or you can't open the zip section. The only difficulty I have at times is with the clips they are a snug fit and do need to be pushed into place firmly. However they are very robust and pushing firmly on them has never caused a problem in the past 4 months of using the rain cover.
About half down the rain cover is a zip this opens from the middle to enable you to take the baby out of the pushchair without exposing the entire pushchair to the elements. I find this to be a very handy feature on the school run when I need to take my younger son out of the pushchair quickly and carry him into school when I take my eldest to his class. It is easy to use and I generally find I can do this one handed most days.
The cover whilst being roomy can only cope with the canopy section of our City Mini GT being open 2 sections rather than the full 3 sections. This so far hasn't been a problem as when fully extended to the 3 sections the canopy acts as a sunshade and makes it hard for my son to see out which is great if he is sleeping in there so is often redundant when the rain cover is on. The cover even with just 2 sections of the canopy open leaves part of the bottom section of the pushchair exposed to the rain or snow we are talking less than 5 cms being exposed at the base of the pushchair but I still would expect it to be a better fit given that it designed not only for the City mini but the GT version too.
Despite the rain cover having various ventilation holes the cover does still get a build-up of condensation on the inside of the cover and it can make it look a bit steamy inside. However I have yet to find a rain cover that doesn't have these problems so whilst it is a negative it is for all of them.
My other quibble with the cover is that whilst it may suit the normal City Mini the GT version has a hand brake that is at the side of the pushchair at the top. To put the brake on and off I have to get my hands underneath the cover to access the brake which is at times a bit of a faff.
Folding the cover up is easy to do and it does store with ease in the basket underneath the pushchair and doesn't take up all of the room so I can still fit a few bits of shopping or my sons book bag into it with ease which is great as some rain covers in my experience have being a bit bulky taking up a lot of room.
Overall it is a good rain cover it keeps the pushchair and my son inside dry. It is robust and well-made and doesn't have any tears after several months of use. It can fold down easily and fit with ease into the basket underneath the pushchair. I do dislike however that there is a bit of a gap at the base of the pushchair meaning a small section gets wet and how you have to fiddle to get to the brake so given the price I am giving it 3 stars but given the pushchair itself is a 5 stars product I have no option to use it.
Summary: A reasonable rain cover but needs a bit of tweaking to make it more suitable for the GT version
