I purchased this carrycot along with the chassis when I was pregnant and had it up in my house for over 2 months before I could use it. The carrycot comes in a standard black colour with a black base, black apron and black hood, the inside of the carrycot and the mattress are a very light grey colour, you are able to purchase a separate colour pack for the carrycot which allows you to change the hood and apron colour, I chose the lime green colour pack.
When my finally arrived I took him straight out for a walk in the carrycot, the carrycot was easy to fix onto the chassis of the pram and with the lime colour pack and mirror chassis it looked very striking and modern. I chose to use moses basket sheet to protect the mattress and unfortunately you can't get these in the same colour grey that the inside of the carrycot, if they made these it would look so much better! My little boy used the pram in the carrycot mode until he was 4 months old, it was all through the winter time and he always looked snug and warm in the carrycot.
We did have an issue with the carrcot setting off alarms in certain shops, after contacting babystyle this issue was quickly resolved and they replaced the carrycot for a brand new one, I was very happy with the service that I received from the company regarding this issue.
I liked the carrycot so much we have now packed it away in the loft to use again if we are fortunate enough to have more children!
I purchased the Babystyle Oyster Carrycot in anticipation of the birth of my third child. I bought the entire system and received the Black Carrycot but also purchased an addition Electric Blue colour pack.
Or anyone who has bought/is buying the Babystyle Oyster system you will know that the seat unit is only suitable from 6 months plus therefore the carrycot unit is essential. It is very easy to fit onto the chassis, just clip it in no need for adapters though you can get these separately if you wish. The carrycot is obviously completely flat so much better for you baby's back than a car seat or semi reclined seat.
So, the carrycot is very lightweight and easy to carry as there is a gap in the hood fabric allowing a small part of the hood frame to be visible to pick it up and put it down. You will get your carrycot along with a hood and cover, apron and mattress. The hood extends fully up and clicks into place providing a shield from the wind/sun for your baby, to retract, you just press the buttons either side and push back, a bit like a car seat handle does. The apron attaches with a press stud at the top either side of the unit and then you just pull it over the bottom part for a snug fit. The mattress is lovely and padded with a removable liner for washing (essential for a newborn baby, especially mine who had reflux) I used a fitted sheet pram/Moses size over the mattress.
I love the fact you can buy additional colour packs for this, effectively giving you a brand new look to you carrycot. I also love that when your baby is read for the pushchair seat, it is a brand new chair, rather than one that has been used since birth just in a different position. It keeps the whole system looking new.
You also get a rain over, which is very simple to fit as it is elasticated and just stretches over the carrycot.
The carrycot is very sturdy and I also had no problem in using it as a Moses basket on numerous occasions.
I love the whole Babystyle Oyster range and would recommend this carrycot to other parents.
If you own a babystyle oyster pram you will know that the seat unit that comes with the chassis is only suitable from six months old so if you want to use your pram from birth you either have to purchase a carseat that is compatible with the travel system or buy the babystyle oyster carrycot. We actually used both but for long periods of time a newborn is much better off laid flat in the carrycot.
We actually bought our oyster as a travel system with the carrycot second han but you can easily get hold of both the pram and carrycot online and in most major baby retailers on the high street. For the basic carrycot without a colour pack you are looking at around £100-115. Then if you want a carrycot to add some colour you are looking at around £20-25 per colour. The main carrycot comes in grey or black and there are 11 colour pack options.
We had the black carrycot and grape colour pack but for the purpose of this review I will just review the basic black although I do love that you can easily change the look.
The basic carrycot comes with the carrycot, mattress , hood, apron and raincover.
The carrycot is lovely and sturdy and is a really good size. Suitable from birth my daughter would still fit in it at 10 months she just doesn't want to be laid flat anymore. The inside is fabric lined and the mattress is a good thickness so nice and comfy for baby. I also liked that the cover over the mattress comes off to allow easy washing, essential with a newborn!
The apron covers a good amount of the carrycot and the fabric feels thick so you feel it will keep baby warm. It poppers easily onto the side of the carrycot near the hood so its easy to click on and off. The apron also has a raised lip to help block and wind from getting into your little one.
The hood is really sturdy and has a gap in the fabric revealing a foam covered bar to make the carrycot easy to carry around. The hood retracts fully down by pressing a button on either side of the carrycot. I was really impressed with how far over the hood comes too and blocks out any sun.
Like all babystyle products the raincover is good quality and fits the carrycot snuggly allowing no rain to get on your baby. It slips easily over as its elasticated round the base.
The carrycot is so easy to install on your travel system in much the same way the seat unit does. It has two plastic parts on either side that click into the frame and just as easily click off using the 2 buttons. Its light weight enough for this not to be an issue. The only thing with it is how much extra room it takes up in the car but you will find that with any carrycot they are just a bulky item
I love how the carrycot looks both on and off the frame its modern looking and easy to change it up as you feel like or for a boy or a girl etc.
As a side note this is also suitable for baby to sleep in over night. In the early days if we were away we would take this instead of the moses basket as its much sturdier for travelling. Its definitely a plus.
Overall it is a bit of a pain you have to buy it seperately and it is quite pricey. But for that you get a lovely quality item essential for a newborn. It keeps them lovely and snug and looks great too.
