Inglesina is a famous Italian brand of prams and pushchairs. It actually started life making English style prams for the Italian market hence the name, which means "little English girl/lady". I must admit this is what sold it for me as I am an Inglesina living in Italy and it amused me. However every other pushchair that you see on the streets of Roma is an Inglesina so I figured that it could not be bad.
We bought the zippy as part of a travel system (stroller, car seat, pram bed thing) which cost around the equivalent of £300. Sadly we did not use the pram for long as our little monster grew to enormous proportions very quickly, but all items of the set were of a good quality and look quite attractive at least in the black colour that we have
To rate the stroller specifically:
The main asset is that it is extremely strong and sturdy which is important in a city like this. I know a friend who actually moved house by ferrying things around the corner on the chassis of the zippy stroller. I too am a great one for pounding the streets with my little man and a pile of shopping, and although the tray underneath is not vast the pushchair is strong enough to hang stuff everywhere.
The suspension and handling are very good, which is another bonus in a city which is paved with cobbles and has an interesting concept of what a pavement is.
It is comfortable as it reclines almost flat and my son regularly has to sleep long periods in it as we go on endless evening promenades with argumentative Italians who cannot decide were we are going.
THe folding mechanism is the real selling point of this stroller. With practice it is easy to fold the pushchair up with one hand while holding a heavy wriggling baby in the other hand. I have had to do this 1000s of times as the lift in our apartment was clearly designed for elves and the buses and transport here is always packed. When it is folded it is also surprisingly compact. However because the zippy is a proper reclining pushchair and not a lightweight version it weighs a considerable 8kgs which can be tough to lug long distance or in the heat.
The only other negative I can think of is that the wheels on mine have started to squeak but for some reason this soothing noise (!) seems to calm my son to sleep.
