The Jane Rider is a great pushchair for a new born. The strata carseat is comfortable for baby, lightweight but with no compromise on quality or safety. It looks stylish too and comes with a rain cover, which is included as standard, a great addition. The strata clips onto the chassis with an easy click function.
We also had the transporter lie flat car Carry cot which was an excellent purchase. I am glad we bought this. It was £100 but a good value buy. It could be used as a standard hard carrycot on the pushchair chassis, which was comfortable with an excellent mattress for comfort, or without the mattress as a car carry cot, you strapped it in across the back seats so only good if you don't have other people in the back! It means on long journeys the baby can lie flat which is better for their newborn spine. The cot has straps in like a car seat. It has great safety ratings. We used this on countless occasions and I loved the fact baby could carry on sleeping and be comfy. We attached a mirror to the back seat so we could see baby in the rear view mirror. If your baby is a sickly baby or has bad reflux, the lie flat may not be a good option!
The pushchair chassis folded down really small and almost has an easy carrying handle. I had to fit it in a mini, so that is why I chose this pushchair. The handle was fully adjustable and this was a great feature. Good for tall or short people!
When my little one was 6 months, we switched to the pushchair seat unit and that's when I didn't like the pushchair! It just felt like the unit was unbalanced on the chassis, I think it is the way it attaches and the unit just seemed to wobble and over bumpy terrain it really shook and wobbled. It looked unsafe! I persevered but just couldn't get on with it. I bought a head hugged separately to try and make it more comfy for my little one but he just seemed to shake about as we walked along, with every bump in the road. I tried another one in a shop in case mine was faulty but it was just the same. I then sold it and chose a different pushchair!
After much deliberation and lots and lots of research, we finally decided to buy the Jané Rider pushchair with the Strata car seat (we also have the transporter carrycot to turn it into a pram, this can also be used as a lie flat car seat).
We have a small car (Audi A1) and the boot is tiny, so needed something which would fit in the boot comfortably, with room for a weekend bag. The Rider pushchair fits brilliantly, especially when you remove the back wheels as this makes it even smaller. The open/close mechanism is fantastic you can open it with one hand - great when you're in a supermarket car park in the rain! The pushchair seat is only suitable for 6 months plus, but should last until your child is 2.5 - 3 years old. The seat can face out so your baby can watch the world go by, or you can turn it around so that baby can face you. It has 3 recline positions and the foot panel can be altered depending on how big your child is.
Our main reason for buying this travel system was the Strata car seat, which has the ability to alter it's angle from 110° to 125° which is much better for newborns pulmonary development and means that they can be in the seat for longer as this angle makes it much easier for tiny babies to breathe.
I would definitely recommend this system as it's so easy to us, the pushchair is very smooth to "drive", it's a better ride than our car! The seat can be installed using a 3 point seatbelt or you can get an ISOfix base if your car supports this.
