When I purchased my Quinny pushchair I was disappointed that it wasn't suitable from birth as it is, you either have to buy the carrycot which at over £100 seems expensive to me for just a few months or this from birth inlay which is less than half the price at £50.
What you get
When I unpacked this you can see its no more than a polystyrene wedge with a blanket attached to cover it. It has slots through the back that the existing baby straps go through. The blanket is cream and pretty nice, it's soft and lightweight but still snug. It comes with a pocket at the bottom for baby's feet and the blanket wraps over with 2 grey cotton ties so the blanket can stay over baby. There is also a hood, I'm not sure if its actually supposed to go over baby's head or not but mine just lies flat and baby's head rests on it. The quinny logo brand name is sewn into the hood.
It's very easy to fit and just fits into the seat section of the main seat on the frame that is supplied with the pushchair as standard. Once installed it means that your newborn baby can lie completely flat which is necessary to protect newborns spine and to help breathing. The support straps on the seat unit slot through the polystyrene wedge and blanket and can then be secured over baby to stop them falling out. My baby looks extremely comfy in this inlay and I did worry if it would be suitable in summer because of the blanket but when it's hot you don't need to wrap the sides of the blanket over so it's fine. This inlay does allow baby to lie flat but on a slight angle with her head raised slightly higher than her feet which isn't a problem in fact she looks more comfortable. This inlay is currently only available in the cream colour which is nice but it would be better to have the option of different colours. The seat unit can still be taken on and off the Quinny frame with the inlay attached so once it's been fitted then its likely to stay in there until you no longer need it. It's completely safe for baby, there is no risk of her falling or wriggling about, I have been using this since my baby was 3 days old with no problems. Please note that this will only fit the Buzz and Zapp models.
This is a perfect alternative to the carrycot option, it takes up less space and is far cheaper and it seems like baby can use this for longer than the carrycot. I still think essentially for what it is its a bit pricey and I think instead that Quinny should throw it in as standard with the pushchair.
That said, I couldn't do without this, my baby loves it and I'm happy using it knowing that she is lying correctly. She looks lovely laying in it with or without the blanket wrapped over her. I would definitely recommend this to turn your pushchair into something suitable for newborns.
