Advantages: Catches piddles easily, washes nicely, comfy for kids
Disadvantages: Not secure in place
I'm currently in the process of potty training my 2 and a half year old daughter, I tried not long after her second birthday and she wasn't ready so I didn't want to push her. Now she seems more ready and when totally bottomless can use the potty effectively. However, when she is wearing big girl knickers she can't understand fully that they need to be taken off to go potty. This makes things a little difficult when going out in the car as she doesn't tell me when she needs a pee. I looked around on the internet to see if there was something to protect her car seat and found this PiddlePad.
The PiddlePad is designed to stop any accidents from reaching the car seat due to it's waterproof vinyl and absorbent layers. Even though it's waterproof, the PiddlePad has a soft fabric outside so it isn't uncomfortable for children to sit on. My daughter has never complained of any discomfort when sitting on this. Another good thing about the PiddlePad is that it isn't very thick so that it doesn't comprise the safety of the car seat. I had used a hand towel in her car seat whilst waiting for the PiddlePad to arrive and it did raise her up quite a bit in the seat.
There aren't any sort of ties or clips on the PiddlePad so it cannot be secured into place when it's on the car seat. This proves quite difficult to keep in place while you are putting the child in the car seat as they do wiggle about quite a lot, my daughter especially! It would be a lot easier if it was tied into place to prevent having to adjust the PiddlePad when the child is in the seat.
One good thing about the design of this PiddlePad is that it has a flap which covers the harness buckle. This is a great inclusion as it stops the buckle from getting damaged from any little accidents, if I had designed it, I wouldn't have though to include it so they really have thought of everything.
My daughter has had a couple of small accidents, once she starts to pee she realises that she needs to hold it a little longer so we haven't had any full blown piddles in the car seat. The PiddlePad provides great protection for these little pee's and nothing has ever reached the underside of the PiddlePad or car seat. Like I said, my daughter has never done a full pee in there so I can't say what the protection would be like for that.
The PiddlePad is totally machine washable. I've washed our PiddlePad on a 40 wash with good results. I let it drip dry once washed and it didn't take that long to dry completely.
I bought this PiddlePad for £8 from Amazon and I'd definitely recommend it to people about to go through the potty training stage. It prevents accidents happening on car seats but is still comfortable for the child. The only problem is that it isn't secure in place so you have to adjust the position when the child is in the seat.
Summary: A good protector for a car seat
