Softness of a sling with the support of a carrier

When looking for a baby carrier or sling I wanted something that had softness and comfort of a sling or wrap but the support of a carrier. I spotted this one in John Lewis for about £40.

At first glance it looks rather complicated as there are no belts and buckles, it relies totally on wrapping the straps and tying. It promises to be suitable from baby to toddler with 4 different carrying positions. The sales assistant didn't really sell it to me as she stated I'm not entirely sure how you would go about putting this on yourself! However as well as clear instructions, the Wilkinet baby carrier points you in the direction of their website where they have posted video instructions. These are priceless and such a good idea.

My baby was born in October and whilst he was small I carried him facing towards me, during the Winter months I was confident that he was kept warm and snuggly in his snowsuit whilst wrapped securely in this carrier and as an added bonus, it kept me warm too. As he got older I switched him so he was facing outwards so he could see what was going on around him and wasn't so bundled up near my chest.

I stopped using this carrier when he reached around 10 months old, he was too heavy to carry on the front and I tired it as a back carrier once and I didn't feel confident enough. Also I was taking the bus a lot to get around and it was no longer as convenient as I would have to remove the carrier.

If you tie this carrier right it is wonderfully comfortable and there is little pressure to your back. There were times that I tied it slightly wrong and really paid for it. Once it's on it's really tricky to correct it as you really need to start all over again and to do that you need somewhere to put your baby.

The manufacturers claim that it's suitable for up to 2 year olds, I personally would have struggled but for a new born and under one it was a very useful piece of my baby kit!

4 hearts from me because although I loved it, I only used it for around half the time they claimed you could.
