Advantages: Cleaning power, Water reduction, Variety of uses
Disadvantages: You get wet and dirty
I have recently bought a Karcher 300B Pressure Washer. The main reason was to clean my block paving drive and patio. This must be one of the best pieces of equipment I have bought in recent years. You can use this type of machine to clean all sorts of things, including vehicles, buildings, garden equipment, and windows. Cleaning with this type of machine helps the environment, as there is an 85% reduction in the use of fresh water (which cannot be bad). To enable you to operate the Karcher you need to attach a hose pipe to the front of the machine. This should have a suitable connection (either Hozelock or Gardena type). You also need to plug the machine into the mains as this is mains operated. The machine has a brush attachment. This can be used for power washing house windows and cars. I will use it in this way. The appliance is fitted with a pressure-operated switch. The motor only starts operating if the trigger on the gun is pulled. When I started the cleaning of the drive with all its moss and dirt, the amount of material that the power washer brought off the surface was amazing. I was highly surprised and pleased as to the resulting clean block paving. All the moss came off in an instance. There are 2 positions for the nozzle. One is for spraying, and the other is for direct powering into very narrow crevices. To avoid damaging the surface you are cleaning, you should keep a minimum distance of 300mm between the surface and the spray nozzle. To avoid getting too wet you should wear wellingtons and some old clothes as water and dirt are bounced back off the surface and goes everywhere. If surfaces are really grimy then you can use detergent with the Karcher. At the present time I have not used the detergent, but possibly will in the spring to clean away winters grime. What an experience.
