Advantages: Has given me hours of peace
Disadvantages: non really
This little book is a real gem. There are no prizes for guessing what it contains, but all I can say is this book is an absolute lifesaver if you happen to be around a child of, say 2-6 and are in need of a nice quiet and fun activity book to be whipped out for those tricky 10 mins when waiting for a sandwich in a cafe or a small delay at the GP's surgery. As this book is 16cm by about 13 cm it is perfect handbag size.
Published by Priddy books, the pages of this book contain numbered silouhettes, which correspond to the stickers as per the title of the book, which are on their own seperate pages. There are 4 pages of pages to be stuck on, alternated with 4 pages of stickers - this is excellent as the correct place to stick the sticker is never more than a flick away.
For older children this book works as an aid to first reading - you can read the label of "apple" and find the sticker that goes with it. The book is divided into different topics such as "the alphabet", "dinosaurs", "shapes and colours" and various animal and everyday item themes bound to appeal to both boys and girls. My five year old loved doing this book - in fact one half term she insisted on spending most of two days working her way through the book up to the heady heights of sticker 851, and really got a lot from doing it.
The age guidelines say 3+, I assume for the possible health and safety possibility of a child eating a sticker, call me reckless but I can see no reason why a younger child can not enjoy this activity with some supervision, and my youngest has done so from about age 2, it is excellent for language development in my opinion as you talk about the various items.
All the stickers are of good quality and stick well, like most priddy books the pictures are in photo form and do appeal. My one small criticism would be that there tends to be a slight American bias to some pictures - we don't get yellow school buses around here! This is a pity for an English based publisher but does not detract too much from the book.
I bought this book for £3 from Sainsbury's, I actually purchased 3 of these books on their 3 for 2 offer, which given the amount of hours enjoyment these books have provided was fantastic value. This book is also available from amazon.
I highly recommend this book - I would think it would be ideal for a plane or train journey, a rainy day and it might just make that restaurant meal more relaxing to wait for.
Highly recommended!
