The book can’t seem to decide whether it’s really trying to direct people towards films they might not have seen, or whether it’s just trying to make cineastes feel good about themselves by confirming opinions they already have. There aren’t as many typos as would be usual for a book of this length. Some of the cast lists miss out important people, t...more

Express Review on 1001 Movies: You Must See Before You Die - Steven Jay Schneider

Rating:

This is a really interesting book devoting a page to each film, it is date based so the book begins with the earliest films taking in Chaplin, Eisenstein, DW Griffiths and many of the founding fathers of cinema, it is not comprehensive but provides a fantastic list of films and guidance on each one. I really enjoy reading it and coming back to it when I want to watch new films, it is a really well designed book and deserves plaudits.

The book is exactly what you’d imagine. You get descriptions of 1001 movies that you supposedly *have* to see before you die. Some films get a whole page, ...  Read the complete review

Expert reviews of all films. Contains more information than you will ever need.

a very substantial study of Fulci’s work; features a deep and complex analysis if some of Fulci’s films without becoming pretentious; surprisingly, for a book of this nature, the text is very readable in all but a couple of places. further study of the man himself, especially with regard to the effect his harsh family life and severe illness in later life, might have lead to even further insight into the films.

Learn a lot about Disney Large book to get through

A nice easy read, would be great for anyone with no knowledge of the period who wants to learn more The story is basically a rehashing of old facts, the author seemed slightly out of her comfort zone

Original and entertaining! They have never relased an updated edition.. imagine the size of that !
