The Runaway Jury - John Grisham:
... Grisham has gone on a slightly different tack here with this book, and instead of examining the actual case before us, he is showing us the manipulating world of jury selection. Naturally, whether any of this would ever actually occur no one will ever know, but the tale seems believable to the point where it made me wonder if I ever got selected for jury service how true and influential I could be as a juror. And I ... Read the full review: The only person in control here is Grisham himself - brilliant by pmcds |

The Rainmaker - John Grisham ... the courtroom a lot, and his following four novels did not. Here, it is a welcome return and very well crafted, with the character of Rudy Baylor very well treated in terms of innocence and knowledge. Youth and naivety work against him, which is where the character of Deck comes in. He doesn't so much have the innocence and youth and access to the courtroom, but he has common sense and a will to survive, and the combination of the two men is marvellous. The clever thing Grisham does here is to examine the whole span of the legal profession in the States. Not only does he examine the noble side of characters such as Rudy and the heart of Deck, he also touches on characte... Read the full review: David and Goliath in the courtroom by pmcds |

Roses Are Red - James Patterson ... life. This isn't so much one of those detective crime thrillers where loads of twists happen in the tale. It's more one of those books that includes a hundred and one mini stories inside of one big one. I think it makes for just as interesting a read as when you're racing through a book trying to work out the ending. You still race through this book, it's just that it's because there's so much going on you can't possibly put it down! The ending is one of James Patterson's better ones too I have to say. He doesn't always get it right in these books, sometimes you can see what's coming a mile off. But I certainly didn't with this book and was pleasantly sur... The Chamber - John Grisham ... be clear cut, but digging in, Adam finds there is more to it than meets the eye. My Opinion The brilliance of this novel is the difference is characters between Adam and Sam. In Adam, Grisham has created a fair, believable, honest and trustworthy young lawyer who genuinely wants to help the justice system and restore a balance, but who also has family values and wants to do everything he can within the lawe to help them. In Sam, he has created a rude, bigoted, racist, former Klansman leader who has nothing nice to say to anyone and is instantly dislikeable. The difference in these two makes the book as good as it is. The plot is a very good one, and provides a good ve... Read the full review: How do you save someone who doesn't want to be saved? by pmcds |
