Advantages: Everything the 2nd film should have been
Disadvantages: Lack of horror throughout
28 Days Later: The Aftermath is split into four sections named after what phase the story is in (Development, Outbreak, Decimation and Quarantine) and is written by the creator of 30 days of night, Steve Niles.
Unlike the films the books isn't big on the horror instead concentrates on the story telling; which is a shame as the fans of the films would be expecting the book to have horror throughout it, but in reality the addition of horror to these stories would only lessen them.
The first three chapters are very straight forward in which the reader will be able to guess what's coming quite easily; however it is the fourth and final chapter that makes this book actually worth a read.
I'm not about to about to give away anything about the fourth chapter other than you will be pleasantly surprised with how it draws the three previous chapters together so that they now seem like they were leading to something. Oh and the ending will be something that will surprise you, although looking back on it you will wonder why.
Despite the severe lack of horror in the book it is still a good book and deserves to be associated with the films. If you are a fan of the first film and not the second then you will still like this; in a way this book is everything the second film could have been.
I also have to give credit to the artists involved in this project as the art throughout helps portray the characters and their stories very well. I don't recognise the names of the artists but yet the deliver artwork easily better to those you find in some of the best mainstream comics.
At the end of the book there is also well presented behind the scenes to chapter three that shows how much effort Niles put into getting this book right.
This book deserves the label 28 days later rather than 28 weeks later as it is written as good as the first film was. Another cheapie off Amazon which is well worth a look if you are a fan of either of the films or Steve Niles.
Summary: A well written book that ties in with the 28days later very nicely
