30 Days of Night - Steve Niles
by invincible2387 - written on 13/04/10 (Very useful, 5 readings)
Rating:
30 days of night tells the tale of a small town Barrow in Alaska where, you guessed it, 30 nights out of the year the town suffers complete darkness. This may not seem like the greatest idea for a comic book ever but when you throw in vampires now you've got a story. The book follows the survivors as these creatures of the night take full advantage of the persistent darkness to hunt the humans who have stayed behind. And when i say creatures that's exactly what i mean, the vampires in this book are vicious beasts who have none of the subtleties of the ones seen in films like twilight. Rating:
the city is almost wiped out, with the few remaining trying to remain hidden and survive until sunlight comes back in 30 days time. This book is a good showcase of horror in comic books, it will never be as gripping as a good novel or a film, but at no point does this book ever seem tame. The sense of horror is really added to by Ben Templesmith s artwork, while keeping the town looking good he manages to make the town seem dark, dangerous and unforgiving. Another thing to mention about the artwork is that he makes ...
28 Days Later: The Aftermath - Steve Niles
by daemonicragnorak - written on 15/05/09 (Very useful, 20 readings)
Rating:
Aftermath is split into four sections named after what phase the story is in (Development, Outbreak, Decimation and Quarantine) and is written by the creator of 30 days of night, Steve Niles. Unlike the films the books isn t big on the horror instead concentrates on the story telling; which is a shame as the fans of the films would be expecting the book to have horror throughout it, but in reality the addition of horror to these stories would only lessen them. The first three chapters are very straight forward in which the reader will be able to guess what s coming quite easily; however it is the fourth and final chapter that makes this book actually worth a read. I m ...
