First of all, I must admit that I am predominantly a Marvel fan, and the DC Universe is largely alien to me, no pun intended. Although superheroes such as Superman and Batman are the figureheads of DC comics, Marvel, along with it's X-Men, Iron Man, Spiderman, etc, have always appealed to me more. So, picking this up in my local Library, it was more the cover art that spoke out to me. A brief synopsis of the back showed me that it was volume 1 of 4, chronicling a year in the DC world, where Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman have gone missing, and the remainder are left to sort things out after a huge battle has almost meant the end of the world.
