6 Rainier Drive - Debbie Macomber
Advantages: Plot, characters
Disadvantages: nothing major!
I was first introduced to American Author Debbie Macomber when I randomly bought a load of Christmas fiction books last December; one of them which was written by Debbie. I was so impressed that I just had to see what else she had on offer and so bought this book.
6 Rainer Drive is a fictional novel by Debbie Macomber. 6 Rainier Drive is part of a series of fictional books based on a fictional town called 'Cedar Cove'. The book is currently selling from Amazon for a price of around £5, however I managed to get my copy for around £1.50 second hand from Play.com.

Justine and Seth are devastated after their restaurant 'The Lighthouse' is set on fire. Who did it? Maryellen and Jon are having trouble with Jon's parents. Why won't Jon have anything to do with them? Lynette is in love and so happy until she gets dumped. What will she do? Terri seems to be attracting the bad boys and so is put off by love...until she meets chess champion Bobby - will she let her barriers down? Poor Alison is upset when her boyfriend Anson runs away and is a suspect for burning down the Lighthouse Restaurant. But did he really do it? Read 6 Rainier Drive to find out!
I thought that the plot was an interesting one, and I also liked the fact that each of the characters had their own little individual plots going on. This made the book interesting and kept me wanting to read on. There is certainly a lot to keep you interested and eager to find out what happens next. There is never a boring moment in this book!
There are lots of characters in this book - at first I was a bit overwhelmed with all the different characters - however after a while I got used to who was who and could remember what 'so and so' were doing etc. One good thing about the book is that as there are so many characters in the book, to help you, there is a character reference at the front of the book, so that whenever you meet a new person or can't remember what that certain character does, you can flip to the front of the book and find out. I found this very useful. Good idea.
I liked how the characters were just normal ordinary people, there was none of this 'celebrity type of plot' (take note Katie Price). It was just real and it made an enjoyable read being able to switch off and follow other 'people's lives' in this book. I felt that I could really connect with the characters and what they were feeling, I was also feeling.
This book is a lovely heart-warming read. I also think that due to all the different characters (we have teenagers, young adults, middle aged adults and senior adults), I think that this book will appeal to most ages.
I consider myself to be a fast reader and can usually finish a short novel within a couple of days, however, this book took me a few weeks to read - it's around 500 pages long.
One thing which I love about this book is how easy to read it is. The writing just flows naturally which makes reading easy - perfect for when chilling out. I think that Debbie Macomber is a brilliant author - I love her use of descriptive writing and the way she makes me feel as though I am a part of the story; as though I am one the characters. That's one thing a good writer is able to do; make the readers feel as though they are 'stepping into the book'. So well done Debbie!
I would definitely recommend this book!
Thanks for reading!
