The Witches - Roald Dahl Author: Roald Dahl / Printed Book / Genre: Junior Books - This is not a fairy tale. This is about real witches. So begins one of Roald Dahl's best books ever, and, ironically, it is such a great story because the premise is perfectly plausible from the outset. When the narrator's parents die in a car cra... overall rating |

Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type - Doreen Cronin ... is a very amusing and witty story which will entertain both children and adults alike. Click, Clack, Moo cows that type is the first published story book by author Doreen Cronin. An attorney by trade who also happens to collect antique typewriters she wrote this story in the middle of the night in twenty minutes no less whilst grieving for her father. Following the impact of such a loss she continued to write and also enroled at law school, something she had wanted to do for a while after realising she would not be able to become a police officer like her father and through her stories we see adult themed issues conveyed through the eyes of animals. A twelve page board book which has solid white child-like images on top of a black background. The intense contrast of colours meant my granddaughter was able to easily focus on the images from a very early age and although the images are quite stark in their monochrome design, they are very attrac... Rare Treasure: Mary Anning and Her Remarkable Discoveries - Don Brown ... many of you probably know from reading various incarnations of my ABOUT ME on here and also from a few comments in my own reviews, we are a home educating family. I bring this up as its quite relevant to this review, as it underscores just why we are so picky about the books we choose for our children. Many of the books we choose must not only entertain, so that they enjoy the reading, but also inform, so that they are picking up facts alongside. This is occasionally simple, but other times less so. One particularly tricky area is finding biographies for younger children. Luckily, this is a niche that is rapidly being filled, with many excellent picture book biograph... Read the full review: Rare Treasure Indeed by shroud |
