... though I m not a big fan of this autobiography boom that is going on at the moment, I asked to have Gary Barlows autobiography as a Christmas present and I just got round to finish it. Chart Throb - Ben Elton ... love to read - anything (books, Corn Flake packets, reviews) and so when my son gave me a copy of Ben Eltons book Chart Throb I was instantly curious. I had not read anything by the author since his debut novel Stark in 89 which was okay I suppose, for a first attempt, but lived close to my heart as I had Mr. Elton himself sign the thing. Chart Throb , his 11th novel, tells the tale of Calvin Simms (all-round bad guy, womaniser and Simon Cowell mimic) and his popular TV show of the same name. This is Alfred Max s complete guide to learning to play the guitar and is written by Ron Manus and L.C. Harnsberger. The book comes with a DVD to show you a clearer picture of things and does generally make learning new skills a lot easier. The book promises to teach levels 1 & 2 combined, though it doesn t actually state what these levels have been derived from and could therefore be from recognized qualifications such as Guild Hall or Associated Board. Incomplete and Utter History of Classical Music - Stephen Fry ... book attempts to be a basic and humourous history of western Classical music from the year dot to practically the present day. It is based on a radio series that Steven Fry did for Classic FM a little while ago. As I ve said above, this is an attempt, and I don t think the book really achieves what it sets out to do. Yes its mildly funny in places, but the same tired jokes crop up over and over and over again. It is written very much in Steven Fry s style, but I guess the radio series might have been more entertaining as you could hear his voice as well.
