The Lore of the Land - Jennifer Westwood, Jacqueline Simpson:
... is a land of folk tales, and this book includes hundreds of them from every county. It is organised alphabetically by county, and each section is prefaced by a map showing approximately the location of churches and holy wells, hill figures and witches, speaking skulls and other supernatural happenings. The authors are experienced folklorists who have attempted to use the earliest source for each entry, and a... Read the full review: A potpourri of English legends by J_Russell |

Are You The Lady From The Welfare? - Alison Thompson ... recently went back to college with the mind to have a complete change in career. A little unsure what direction I wanted to go in, but fairly certain it would be within the health and social care field, I chose an access course, with one module being social welfare. While at my local library collecting books for an assignment I noticed amongst all the huge textbooks this little book of memoirs written by a social worker. As it s a profession that has intrigued and interested me, and had me curious if it was one I could do, I checked the book out. Alison Thompson became a social worker in the 60 s firstly in Sheffield and later in rural Northern England. I was intrigue... Read the full review: A glimpse rather than an insight. by Rhiana |

Next Steps in Counselling - Alan Frankland ... book is intended for people studying fora Certificate in Counselling and intermediate counselling skills courses. I found it very useful when studying for my Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy. Next Steps in Counselling is very easy to read and user friendly, as everything is laid out in bitesize chunks with bullet points throughout, a summary at the end of each chapter to check your understanding, and many activities to help you develop as a counsellor. The book appears to be most useful when thinking of counselling from a person-centred prospective (well, it was for me in my studies). There is a chapter on counselling theories to help you explore the vario... Read the full review: Easy to read - develop yourself as a counsellor by KaribouFluff |

The Rise and Fall of the Third Chimpanzee - Jared M. Diamond ... you ever wondered where it is we come from? Who were our predecessors - Neanderthals? Homo erectus? Why do humans use computers as tools when chimps - genetically only 2% away from us - use twigs? What determines who we find attractive, and what makes us age? All these are among questions answered in Jared Diamond s 1991 book The Rise and Fall of the Third Chimpanzee. - About the Author - Jared Diamond is a professor of physiology at the University of California, but also a keen student of bird ecology and anthropology, with a keen interest in the pacific island state of Papua New Guinea. Third Chimpanzee was the first of three major popular science works: the c... Read the full review: The Rise and Fall of the Third Chimpanzee by silverbird44 |
