I must admit, I wouldn't instinctively turn to the AA (Automobile Association) when it comes to guide books, especially not one for the Caribbean! However, the AA do produce a good range (300 or more) of guidebooks, and the Explorer series is really rather good. Softback, handy travel bag size (not pocket), around 300 pages of a mixture of text, full colour photographs and useful maps. Although this a general category for AA Explorer guidebooks, I shall be concentrating on one entitled purely "Caribbean". I tend to buy a travel guide for my holiday destination some months before I intend to travel, perhaps its all part of the excitement build up. Knowing what sights are worth seeing as well is handy tips can save time, money & disappointment. I bought the AA explorer guide to Egypt before I went to Cairo earlier this year, I already had firm ideas on my goals, this book proved to be worth it's weight in gold to me. The book contains 5 sections about what the country is today, what it once was, a gazetteer which breaks the nation down to 8 regions with in depth articles, travel facts & a section on hotels & restaurants.
