Simon Barnes is a noteable birdwatcher and sports writer for the Times. He has apparently written over a dozen books and the couple he has written about birdwatching are both very accessible and enjoyable. Probably his more famous book is 'How to be a bad Birdwatcher' and this - 'A bad birdwatcher's companion' is the follow up. His definition of a 'bad birdwatcher' is someone that enjoys birds and feels a 'lift of the heart' but doesn't need to do anything about it, such as ticking lists of taking notes.
