A child called it', is a true story that tugs at our emotions, hits us hard where it hurts and shows us life in a perspective that many of us have never seen before. It shows the horrors in our world that go on behind closed doors and allows us to understand partly the lonliness, isolation and absolute fear of the child in question. It makes us question our belief in our 'perfect' world and think about what we may have seen already but just passed it by. Plot To put it as simply as possible so that it won't ruin the story for those of you who haven't read it, this story is about the abuse that David Pelzer suffered from the ages of 4-12 years and is the ... A child called "it" is a very nice story and true i felt so bad when all this happend to him.I was creying when i read this story.I jus cant belive its true. His mom abused of him, she burned him,she did everything to make his life impossible. The good thing is that at school he did have someone to take care of him.The nurse took care of him alot.He looked at the nurse as his perfect mom.The teachers where nice to him to at sholl he was safer.he didint wanto say the truth because he knew that if he told the nurse that the nurse would go to the police and he actually tought of his mom when his mom didint think of him.I have never read a story like this that ... A CHILD CALLED “IT” “As a child, Dave Pelzer was brutally beaten and starved by his emotionally unstable, alcoholic mother, a mother who played tortuous, unpredictable games that left one of her sons nearly dead. She no longer considered him a son, but a slave, no longer a boy, but an “it”. The outside world knew nothing of the nightmare played out behind closed doors.” Mail on Sunday Alarm bells started to ring when I began to read this book, knowing in advance that what the story covers is disturbing and details the life between the ages of 4 and 12 of Dave Pelzer. I had vague ideas about the outline of the story and a little ... Read the complete review

"It" vanished for ever on 5th March 1973 with the words, "David, you're free. Your mother is never going to hurt you again." These twelve words were spoken by the Policeman who had taken the twelve-year-old Dave Pelzer away from his school. They were spoken the day after he had been thrown down the garage stairs by his mother. They were spoken on the day the staff at Thomas Edison Elementary School laid their jobs on the line to intervene to protect him, a 5th Grade student. Following a weekly inspection of his bruised body, his injuries recorded in detail by the school nurse, they contacted the Police and he was ... Read the complete review

Is A Child Called ‘It’ an autobiography or an autobiographical novel that was hijacked by clever marketing? I am going to have a real problem writing this opinion and I know it will take a while, because I don’t want to offend anyone. So how could I possibly offend you? Like many, I read A Child Called ‘It’ because of the positive feedback that read on this site and recommendations from friends. Most have commented on what a fantastic book it is; how tragic Dave Pelzer’s childhood was and how he’s overcome so much to become a world-renowned writer. Unfortunately, if this weren’t a true story A Child Called ... Read the complete review
