Advantages: Gives you an insight to the world of child abuse.

Disadvantages: Hard read for those who would find it disturbing.

This story opened my eyes to the sad reality of child abuse and how it can affect a child. I have never before read something that was so emotional and compelling. A child called it is based on the true story of David Pelzer who was physically and mentally abused by his mother and the emotional scars she left him with. It tells you in detail the torture he was put through and how he was left to deal with this. The abuse only occured to him and not to his other siblings and tells you how his cry for helps were ignored. For some this story may be unreadable as it is not an easy read. It is painful and upsetting to read yet you end up feeling such a strong feeling for the young boy that it's hard to put down. I found myself addicted to this book and constantly wanted to find out if he would battle his way through it.

Summary: An interesting book which opens your eyes.
