A book that pulls at the heartstrings (A Child Called 'It' - Dave Pelzer)
Member Name: louby24
Advantages: A powerful story, very interesting Disadvantages: Some aspects may be upsetting to the reader When i first read this book, i couldn't help but cry and feel overcome with emotion. It is such a powerful book that effects anyone who reads it. A child called it is about a boy who suffers such violent child abuse that it was seen as one of the worse cases of child abuse in America. The first time i read it i was shocked by the things his mother did to him. How she was so caring towards others but for some reason did such horrid things to David. As a mother myself i could never even imagine doing the things his mother did and the fact that David survived through it all to become a strong person gives a real inspiration that a person can overcome anything. I felt the way David talked about what happened tapped into peoples emotions. He writes in a way to make the reader go through what he did but also try to understand why his mother did what she did. I would have to say that this is one of the best books i have ever read. It is a real tearjerker. It is such a sensitive issue but David retells it in a way that makes you understand what happened and you really feel for him. It also shocks you in that no one will help him, even his own father. I would reccommend this book to anyone who likes reading true stories, but also to someone who can cope with the subject matter as some things his mother did to him are very distressing. I thoroughly enjoyed it. So much so that i read the next two instalments. Summary: A interesting, heartfelt book that makes you think |
