Advantages: Heart touching, interesting and easy to read.

Disadvantages: Sad story.

This book tells the story of child abuse from the inside, from the abused childs perspective. The story is about a young boy named Dave who lives with his abusive mother and his father who drink alcohol excesivly. Dave is forced to sleep at the bottom of the stairs in the garage and is called up to play a 'game' with 'the mother' that often results in him getting a slap from her .
I won't say anymore about the story or what happens because I don't want to give it away incase you haven't read it but I will say this is a fantastic book to read, I have read it more than once and I have also read the sequel. I found parts upsetting to read and my heart really did go out to the child in the story. I thought it was brilliantly written and maintained brilliant structure and was easy to read throughout.
The story gives an insight into what an abused child goes through and how the situation can make them feel. It also gives insight into how the fostering system can affect children and what it can do to foster parents. It shows how hard that social workers and foster parents work to make a child safe and feel loved and the problems that can arise when a foster child acts inappropriately. I have to congratulate all foster parents out there, I don't think I could do it, you're amazing if you can.
The story really is heart-touching and I congratulate Dave Pelzer for writing it, I think he did a fantastic job and would read it again and recommend it to others.

Summary: A brilliant book to read but it is sad.
