What a book!! I initially borrowed this book from my uni library, and the librarian warned me that it would be hard reading- but it was worth it. I had been recommended the book and others in the series, (The Lost Boy and A Man Named Dave. I would now encourage others to read them but will say that they are true to the core ...

"As a child, Dave Pelzer was brutally beaten and starved to the extream by his emotionally unstable/ unfit/ crazy, alcoholic mother, a mother who played tortuous, sick, evil, unpredictable games that left one of her sons nearly dead. She no longer considered him a son, but a slave, no longer a boy, but an "it". Hense the name of the ...

Those who discredit David's account of abuse were probably never abused. The tormenter doesn't usually do their evil when other people are around -- they're slick. Also, for those who think the memories are "too vivid after all these years", one never forgets abuse. I think it's great that David was able to "purge" himself of this by writing about it. He has found forgiveness and is able to live a normal life. Why is it so hard to believe that he can do that if these events really happened? Everyone is different. Some people are a lot weaker and unable to "deal" with abuse, while others continue to fight. I have no doubt that David still has demons from his years of torture. He just chooses to channel these feelings positively rather than negatively. Bravo David!

A child called it', is a true story that tugs at our emotions, hits us hard where it hurts and shows us life in a perspective that many of us have never seen before. It shows the horrors in our world that go on behind closed doors and allows us to understand partly the lonliness, isolation and absolute fear of the child in question. It makes us ...

I have wanted to read this book for many years but for some reason I never did. Until another member on readitswapit asked to swap with a book in my list a couple of weeks ago and I saw this on theirs, so thought I would take up the opportunity. I wasn’t going to write a review on this book as I thought it would be hard to rate it with ...

I've read many books. A few have made me laugh, and a few have made me sad. But, I've never had a book draw me to tears before - until this one, "A Child Called 'It'". This is a truely remarkable book written by a truely remarkable man. Dave Pelzer was brutally abused by his mother. In the 70's, his case was the 3rd worst ...

I have just finished reading this book and it was a very easy to read book which was sad for the majority of the way through. The book tells the story of a child called 'Dave,' who lives with his mother, father and two brothers. At first Dave had the perfect life of being loved and going on family outings and holidays. Then his mother ...

"It" vanished for ever on 5th March 1973 with the words, "David, you're free. Your mother is never going to hurt you again." These twelve words were spoken by the Policeman who had taken the twelve-year-old Dave Pelzer away from his school. They were spoken the day after he had been thrown down the garage ...

~~~UUUUURRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!~~~ I hate my fingers. No I really hate them now. Barely a minute passes in the library when they start snapping themselves at the hard covers of best-sellers, directing my eyes straight to the book-jacket which more often than not results in another book staring at me, on my ever-bombarding reading-shelf. ...
Dave Pelzer...regardless of his past, is an arrogant right-wing phony who hides behind a stucco wall and a rent-a-cop in a million dollar sh*t-home right off of Highway 111 in Rancho Mirage, California. He and his wife have 4 autos (matching Hummers, as well as her Jaguar and his Lotus). He frequents Sullivans Steakhouse (without his wife) in Palm ...
