‘A Child Called It’ written by David Pelzer, is a non-fictional account of the abuse he suffered at the hands of his mother, although I cringe when I use the word ‘mother’. I actually cringe to think of this woman of all, but feel she certainly does not merit the title mother; monster would be more like it. This poor excuse ...  Read the complete review

This book is for anyone with a heart. Although is bases around the experiences the author had as a child with domestic violence/child abuse, it doesn't matter if you don't care about such issues. After you read this book, trust me - you WILL care. A book that provides a horrifying insight to the world of abuse experience by a ...  Read the complete review

What a great book! I heard about this book, by chance from an e-mail I got recommending a book club, I read the write up on it and thought,'I've got to read this' and I'm so glad I did. The things that happened to this man during his childhood were monstrous. He was abused by his mother from the age of around 4-5. The ...  Read the complete review

This is a fantastic read for all of us that sometimes feel hard done to. If you enjoy real life stories then this is the one. I couldn't put it down. It is emotional and you will straight away want to read the next one 'a lost boy' then 'a man called Dave' I'm not a big reader, so to find one that I couldn't put ...  Read the complete review

This is the most heart rendering, devasting story that I have ever read…all my friends raved about it saying what a good read it was, so not wanting to be left out on what was popular purchased a copy of *A Child called IT * by Dave Pelzer, an author id never heard of, yet a book that was so popular. Is A Child Called ‘It’ an autobiography or an autobiographical novel that was hijacked by clever marketing? I am going to have a real problem writing this opinion and I know it will take a while, because I don’t want to offend anyone. So how could I possibly offend you? Like many, I read A Child Called ...  Read the complete review

I've read lots of opinions on this book whilst trying to make up my mind whether or not to buy it and read it for myself. The more opinions I read the more I didn't want to read it for myself as it sounded horrific, but in the end I did read it. The book is 148 pages long and took me 2 hours to read. I'd had no intention of ...  Read the complete review

I had never heard of David Pelzer or his books until I read about them on Dooyoo, but after reading some reviews I felt compelled to read them. I started with the first book in the trilogy "A Child Called It". I knew it would be hard going, but I did not expect the book to affect me the way it has. If it was a work of fiction it ...  Read the complete review

After watching the ‘Oprah’ show and seeing David Pelzer I felt so overwhelmed that I had to buy this book. So, I went and purchased the book, I was shocked at what I read, how could such cruelty in the world exist. It horrified me and I must have spent days thinking about, even trying to imagine what it must have been like. And what a ...  Read the complete review

I was told about this book by a fellow foster carer. It is difficult to believe, but this sort of thing still goes on, and it is difficult to believe that we haven't learned much about this sort of child abuse and how to protect such children. Some people have said to me that they don't believe Dave's story, but I can assure you ...  Read the complete review
