I can fondly recall having a Little Golden Book that contained some of the poems from this collection, and being enchanted with it. Seeing it on my daughter's syllabus for this year made me look forward to becoming better acquainted with Stevenson's verse, being much better acquainted with his prose thanks to Kidnapped and Treasure Island. I have to say we have not been disappointed. The book is divided up into sections, which relate loosely to a theme. For example, the section entitled The Child Alone features poems about solitary play and activities, The Garden of Verses section relating in some way to the world outside, and so on.
