Introduction I’m a big fan of Reginald Hill’s Dalziel and Pascoe novels, but haven’t really read any of his work outside of this, so I wasn’t too sure what to expect when I picked up this book. However, I have read reasonable reviews, so hoped that it wouldn’t be too bad. What I found was a very original, if slightly odd, novel that kept me intrigued from the first to the last page. It has echoes of some of the weirder Dalziel and Pascoe novels, yet is still quite far removed from them. Perhaps a better comparison is with some of Barbara Vine’s novels, such as The Blood Doctor. The story Two strangers, Sam Flood, a young Australian girl and Miguel Madero, an ex Catholic ...
