After another productive "day at the office" books wise, I managed to obtain a bag full of books my friend brought to work,exciting to me, but frustrating to my husband, my bookcase seems to beoverflowing across the bedroom floor!


The book in question is "A cut above" by LyndaPage.


Kacie Cooper has long since been observed as a very goodhair stylist, working within a well liked hair salon in Leicester.

Life she feels is good, she has fulltime employment, she is happily married to a wonderful man Dennis, and life just seems good!

Her husband is on the verge of success with his band "Vernon and the vipers", and her life is on an even keel, that is until her estranged sister turns up on her doorstep.


Her sister has long been married to a man their parents actually approve of (unlike Kacey!), and is living the dream, though after years of not having any contact between them it soon becomes apparent that her sisters life was no-where near as idyllic as it seemed, with her husband being a bully and control freak.


Kacey soon decides that she can't throw her sister out onto the streets so lets her stay, though this soon causes problems within Kacey's perfect world, problems that will soon turn her world upside down.......


This book actually surprised me by how readable it actually was!


Kacey is a lovely and very likeable character, with her trying her hardest to help everyone that needs help, but as the book progresses you realise with that kindness and independence is a ridiculous amount of stubbornness, with a good half of the book making me really frustrated at her!


The story is believable enough, the woman scorned, Kacey inturn finds herself at times in unpredictable situations, and far from home, but always managing to hold her head high and facing her situation with her indomitable Englishness, giving the book a real feel of many of the wartime books I have read, with the story not so much about the situation but more the presence of mind and the characters being able to withstand their hardships instead.


This wasn't the best book I have ever read, but was by no means boring, alongside the story of Kaceys life was a phantom person trying to sabotage hair salons across Leicester, which Kacey finds herself part of when entering a competition, and finding all of her products had been tampered with, this in turn is the catalyst of her troubles, though does carry on towards the end of the book (I hate it when a thread of story starts then never finishes!)
