A if for Alibi - Sue Grafton
I discovered Sue Grafton at my local library whilst I was browsing for something that took my fancy to read. I first saw 'P is for Peril' and B is for Burgular' and wondered if the series ran through the whole alphabet. After a little reading of the inside cover listing the other titles by this author I was chuffed to bits to see 'The Alphabet Series'... 26 books! And guess what I thought... 26 books = 26 reviews! On that basis I decided to read the blurb on the back of one of the books and decided that it sounded right up my street but wanted to read the series in order right from A through to Z. I found A is for Alibi and trotted off, booked it out with a HUGE smile on my face.....
**The Plot**
Set in USA, Lawrence Fife, a successful Divorce Attorney was murdered and his wife Nikki is convicted of his killing. Eight years later Nikki is released from prison on parole and hires a private detective, Kinsey Millhone, to investigate the murder, protesting her innocence.
As Kinsey gathers further information she finds that a young girl Libby Glass was also murdered four days after Fife and that they were killed by the same method and that they were rumoured to be having an affair. This opens a whole can of worms so to speak and Kinsey becomes heavily involved in the cold case on her quest to learn the truth.
**My Thoughts**
I really enjoyed this read and find the twists very unexpected, yet they fit in logically with the whole plots, nothing too bizarre or extreme here! I enjoyed Sue Grafton's way of writing, in the first person; it absolutely made me believe that I was reading Kinsey Millhone's personal memoirs. The author creates a depth to character of Kinsey and I feel I really 'know her'.
I was not disappointed by the ending of this book and am very much looking forward to the remaining B to Z.
I would recommended this book if you like mystery, fictional crime or who-done-it style reads.
Summary: I plan to read to entire series....
