On the Back
Princess Merry and her loyal bodyguards flee to LA to escape the malign attentions of the faerie court. She's being pursued by someone who tried to kill her once before, and whose intentions are now more terrifying.
This is the sixth book of the series and is narrated by Merry Gentry also known as Princess Meredith NicEssus, Princess of Flesh and Blood heir to the unseelie throne. The story takes place just days after merry has returned with her guards to LA from the unseelie court where Prince Cel has escaped his imprisonment and is set on getting to Merry. The book starts of in a set of Layers offices where they are trying to resolve an issue three of the guards. The guards Galen, Rhys and Abe have been accused of raping a royal in the seelie court and to there surprise King Taranis have called in the human police. Situations arise in the office which none of them expect. The book follows Merry throughout this day and we see how the wild magic that she awaken in faerie has followed her to LA.
I really enjoyed the pace of the book and was glad that the story line didn't have as many sex scenes in as the other books. Not that I'm complaining about the scenes in the other books, it just makes a refreshing change. I also liked how it concentrated on the main men in Merry's life and not all the new guards that have appeared in the latter of the books. I especially like the interaction between Doyle Merry and Frost my favorite characters of the series. There were some unexpected twists which kept me wanting to read more. When I read books I tend to only read a couple of chapters a day, but I was enjoying the book so much that I finished it really quickly. The only thing that annoyed me about the book is that it has the first chapter of the next book inside it. I mean this is ok if you have the next book but if like me you don't have it then you have to wait. All in all I give this book a 9/10, very enjoyable.
The story is 431 pages long in the small paperback version. The books are available in most book stores and websites prices start at £5.25 - £14.99 depending on what type of book you decide to get. It also has different front covers.
The next book of the series is Swallowing Darkness.
