When Rose, 17 and her older sister Diana are evacuated to a seaside village, she has no idea that this is the summer that will change her forever. Arriving as a girl, but then quickly forced to take responsibility for herself as her guardian fails to arrive, she imagines a summer of fun. But it isn't long before she realises that her new found responsibility requires her to reassess everything she believed in until this point. Thrust amongst other's struggles during wartime Britain she discovers that friendship and love come from the unlikeliest of sources. A book for all hopeless romantics and teenage girls. One of my favourite books of all time. Who has ever felt second-best or overshadowed by a sibling? Meet Rose, or "Roe", a teenager with an inferiority complex and a desire to be loved. Clever but restricted by her school she just wants to find out who she is, and she wants to be free. Who has ever felt shy or unsure? Meet Diana, the beautiful and kind older sister of Rose, she is shy and wants to find independence, but doesn't know quite how to do it and lives a rather sheltered existence. After their father's death, Rose and Diana and their mother are grieving and unsure ... Read the complete review

As author of goodnight mister tom, while browsing my library shelves the other week, I came across this book, and as soon as the cover said Michelle Magorian, I was intrigued. If any of you have ever seen goodnight mister tom, or have read it then it is a brilliant book, and I had to study it for our year nine essay. I thoroughly enjoyed the book at the time, and thought that Michelle was a fab author. When I found that this book was all about falling in love, and aimed towards young adults to read, I was straight in there. As many of you know, I am a fan of chick literature and enjoy this kind of book. If you don’t like this genre of book, I warn you to read no further. Read the complete review
