A Lot of Hard Yakka - Simon Hughes Simon Hughes may not be the most familiar name in cricket; he never played for England, nor was he ever seriously contemplated for selection. He retired in the mid nineties having spent a decade and a half at the top of the domestic game but only the most dedicated of cricket fans would have been able to put a face to the name. Simon Hughes, being the least attractive commentator on Channel Fours superb cricket’ coverage, is the one boxed up away from the viewers in the analyst cabin. But his books to date are not so reserved and unsexy. This is his first effort of three so far and is a must for every cricket fan. If you read Gary Nelsons excellent Left foot Forward on the life and times of an everyday pro footballer then you might get a kick from this as it follows the same vein, even if you don’t like the hallowed sport.
