Advantages: Interesting cloud'ie shapes

Who hasn't done a spot of cloud watching? - it's a pastime which we have probably all been guilty of at some point in our lives.

It's so easy to look up at the sky and see shapes in the fluffy balls of water-vapour which float above our heads - but did you know there is a book which has photographically recorded the best of these vapory look-alikes in a collection compiled by the Cloud Appreciation Society.

The Cloud Appreciation Society's manifesto says, "We believe that clouds are for dreamers and their contemplation benefits the soul. Indeed, all who consider the shapes they see within them will save on psychoanalysis bills." And it is this lighthearted approach which sets the tone for the book.

Costing £9 from Amazon, 'A Pig with Six legs: and Other Clouds' is basically a collection of interesting cloud shapes which resemble other things - it's as simple as that. Amongst the pages you will be treated to photographic visions of; a cloud which looks like a loggerhead turtle, a bear trained in the cruel art of duck juggling, a submarine, a dragon's head, the 'Cloudship Enterprise', plus many more weird and wonderful shots. On the opposing page to the photo is a description of the shot, the location, plus the name of the photographer who has submitted it.

At around A5 in size, the hard backed book makes for an entertaining browse, and there are some really cool looking clouds displayed amongst its pages. Some of the photos take a bit of work to actually see the shape (especially 'A proud mother greets her daughter after the first day of school' on page 60), but whether you can see them or not, it's still a fun process trying to make them out.

All in all, A Pig with Six Legs is a highly entertaining book which would make a cool novelty gift for someone. The photographs within the book are printed at a high resolution, and as a lighthearted look at the world around us (or more specifically 'above' us) you probably can't go wrong with this - recommended.

Summary: Cloud spotter's book

Cloud watching is a lovely pastime, just yesterday I showed my two year old granddaughter how to look at the clouds - although all she could apparently see was 'Daddy'!

I saw a Sealion-cloud the other day. It was brilliant.
