We all know that reading aloud to our children is one of the best things we can do for them. But in truth, it's not always a complete pleasure. Small children get 'addicted' to a particular story (something in your head quietly screaming "Not that one again, please darling!!!"): and some picture books aimed at the 2-5 age group are mind-numbingly boring, others are simply tongue-twisting torture. Thankfully, Helen Cooper's characterful saga of three unlikely friends - the cat, the squirrel and the duck - doesn't fall into either category.
