First Among Equals - Jeffrey Archer
by Nolly - written on 09/05/01 (Very useful, 151 readings)
Rating:
It is purely unintentional, but I think that it is a wonderful coincidence that I should choose to write an opinion about Jeffrey Archer's 'First Among Equals' on the very day that our glorious leader chose to call a General Election. The other thing that I must state from the start is that I am not a fan of Lord Archer - in fact I feel him to be detestable excuse for a disgraced ex-politician, allegedly of course. But what is it about this novel that makes it one of my 'must reads' whenever election fever hits the country? The novel is epic in its scale. It was written in 1984 and covers the years 1964 - 1992. It follows the careers of four new ...

First Among Equals - Jeffrey Archer

Rating:
know that regular readers of my opinions will find this most out of character. After all I am a Guardian-reading, bleeding heart liberal. And just for the record I despise Jeffrey Archer. I hope they find him guilty. I hope they send him down for a hundred years. I wouldn’t shed a tear if they locked him up and threw away the key. But, in the throes of revision for a course entitled Political Change in Modern Britain, I kidded myself that this book might constitute revision. As anyone who has sat any kind of serious exams will know, a candidate is wont to suffer from a serious, but as yet unrecognised condition, called Exam Nog. This affliction makes a person do ...

Jeffrey Archer in general
by casarka - written on 13/07/01 (Very useful, 51 readings)
Rating:
a writer has done in his past or what he does in the future. I just like to read books, good ones if possible and I have found that Jeffrey Archer is a pretty safe bet as far as my tastes go. His books are usually long, which I don’t mind, there’s no hurry to get to the end of a good story. His books are also really easy to read, you don’t feel like you have to think too much about what you’re reading, you just get on with it and read the story. Sometimes I start a book and can’t finish it because it’s hard to get into and I end up falling asleep every time I try, I’ve NEVER had this problem with Jeffrey Archer books, and ...
