Very good book by a great author

This truly is a happy, feel good novel. Who else could write a story about an alcoholic facing death and wrap it all up in one magical christmas but Fannie Flagg. The story centres around Oswald T. Campbell (an alcoholic on his last legs) moving to a rural Alabama community seemingly cut off from the rest of world. He moves there to die but the town of "Lost River" with its sense of community slowly seeps into his blood. Oswald in turn, learns to intergrate and his health starts to improve.
There are many characters in this uplifting book but the main two apart from Oswald are a Cardinal bird called Jack (who cant fly) and a little lame girl called Patsy that is abused by her family. Many of the other characters in the book have had difficult lives but they are all drawn together by trying to help Patsy.
I guess this book would probably be read more by women than men, but dont be put off. This is a great novel that will leave a tear in the eye and the heart feeling a little lighter.
