I am pretty finicky about the books I give my children to read, and this extends to picture books. I feel picture books for the very young are quite important, opening their eyes to the enjoyment of stories and reading, and it is therefore vital that the quality be high. I have noticed over the decades that both the children I have taught at preschool and later my own children, responded best to picture books whose illustrations were rich and whose stories resonated with how they saw the world, and somehow helped them make sense of the everyday goings on in it.This is one of those books, and is, dare I say it, a classic.
