A squash and a squeeze This is a children's book written by Julia Donaldson, author of 'The Gruffalo' and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. It is a 24 page book published by Macmillan at a cost of £5.99. It is her first book published in 1993 which started off as a song for a children's television show. Julia writes in what was to become her usual style of rhyme to produce this wonderful text. A woman is complaining that her house is "a squash and a squeeze" and asks an old man his advice. He advises to take in animal after animal until there is just no more room and the old woman is beside herself. His next piece of advice is a ... Read the complete review

A wise old man heard her grumble and grouse, ‘There’s not enough room in my ... Read the complete review

My daughters are big fans of the lovely picture books that are written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. One of their books which we had not yet read was A Squash and a Squeeze so when we saw this at our local library we did rather pounce on it and it was the first book we read when we got home! Like most of Julia Donaldson's stories, this is told in rhyme and is about an old lady who is very unhappy because her home is too small for her - in fact it's a bit of a squash and a squeeze! She seeks help from a wise old man but his advice does seem a bit strange at first. He tells her to take her hen inside the house which she does and it flaps ... Read the complete review

We received our copy of 'A Squash and a Squeeze' as a birthday present for one of my little ones and it has been read over and over again. The story is written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. This pair are also responsible for several over wonderful books, such as 'The Gruffalo' and 'Room On The Broom'. 'A Squash and a Squeeze' was their first collaboration. 'A Squash And A Squeeze' is the story of a little old lady who is fed up of having so little space in her house. She calls upon a wise old man to help her and he comes up with a very curious plan, involving a group of rather naughty farmyard animals, which throws her house ... Read the complete review
