John Waller's "A Time to Dance, a Time to Die: The Extraordinary Story of the Dancing Plague of 1518" explores the strange outbreaks of spontaneous and prolonged feverish dancing that occurred in parts of western Europe during the middle ages. Known medically as "chorea" there are a good number of documented cases of this over a couple of centuries but Waller focuses on the outbreak in Strasbourg in 1518, most notable because literally hundreds of people were afflicted by the mania. This is a combination of history book and psychology paper as Waller lists various instances of the phenomenon that is also called "St. Vitus's Dance" ...  Read the complete review
