Advantages: Well written.

Disadvantages: Very engrossing read. You won’t be able to put this book down.

Marcus is a twelve-year-old boy who has just moved to London with his Mother. He’s quite eccentric and because of this he’s finding it difficult to fit in at school and he’s being bullied. Even worse, his mother is suffering from depression and he’s scared she will try to kill herself. Will is a 37-year-old single man whose never worked a day in his life. He lives his life without hassle and intends to keep it that way. Through a bizarre set of circumstances they meet and their lives are changed because of it.

The book intertwines chapters between Will and Marcus perspective on their circumstances and works really well. You find yourself reading one chapter and having to read the next because you want to know what the other character is thinking. This is a well written, humorous and heart warming story. It’s a very dark and depressing subject matter that has been handled well. This is my favourite Nick Hornby book and I can’t recommend this book enough.
