The author is a pseudonym and may be a combination of information from many people, however, it reads like one author. It made me wander how he could back up the information. I do know that this person (?) did work in the industry and became very influential. As a collection of computer journalists there is likely to be biased opinion, as the sources of information may have come from those people who wanted to settle a score or set the unofficial record straight. This book was one of the set texts for my Open University course and I must admit it’s not a book I would have chosen for myself. Having been labelled a ‘set text’ I sat down to read it and braced myself for a boring time. I was pleasantly surprised, it is in fact a very readable book and quite funny too. It tells the story of the origins and growth of the computer industry. Instead of being full of awe and respect for the remarkable achievements of the computer industry and its key people it claims it was all done by accident and the key players were in fact amateurs. This book is one of the set texts for my Level 1 OU course. I would have never picked it up to read let alone buy if it were not. It costs £8.99 but I only pay 25% of the cost.
