Advantages: debate starter, great read for the train

Disadvantages: needs another chapter to bring up to date, dry in places

The author is a pseudonym and may be a combination of information from many people, however, it reads like one author. It made me wander how he could back up the information. I do know that this person (?) did work in the industry and became very influential. As a collection of computer journalists there is likely to be biased opinion, as the sources of information may have come from those people who wanted to settle a score or set the unofficial record straight.

That said, the book is a great chatty read. Its very good at explaining a few technical terms to set the story and give extra meaning. In one way it reads like a good mystery novel ? building the atmosphere whilst setting scenes which can be pieced together. It was only towards the end of the book that my chin dropped and the full meaning and understanding of the amazing accidental empire dropped in place. The lead up was very much worth it.

I was left with a satisfied and amazed feeling that made me look at the big computer companies and retailers alot differently. I certainly appreciate the power of the pc and its development now.

For those who?ve known computers for 15 or more years, fond memories and chuckles will come flooding back.

Enjoy the mystery.
